Most women find us the same way — something stopped them mid-scroll, and it just felt like theirs.
You're in the right place.
Four dachshunds, one cream field, every swirl hand-stitched for keeps
Four dachshunds sit along the barrel of this bag in quilted appliqué panels, each one slightly different — the first rendered in deep teal and golden tan, wearing a sparkly beaded collar; the next two in warm reds and golds with patterned fabric bodies suggesting little jackets; the last a softer peachy gold, glancing sideways. The cream background between them is densely quilted in a flowing swirl pattern you can feel as much as see. The end panel is a patchwork of small squares in crimson, gold, sage, indigo, and plum. The rolled handles are wrapped in a rosy floral-paisley fabric, finished with brown leather tabs. Claire and Riley found this piece the way they find everything for the shop — by looking for something their mother Margaret would have stopped dead in the aisle to pick up, just as she was doing here in Cape May from 1978 onward.
- Four Distinct Dachshund Panels — Each appliquéd dog is pieced from different patterned fabrics — one in teal and tan with a beaded collar, others in warm reds and golds — so no two are exactly alike as your eye travels around the bag.
- Details — 19" × 9" × 9", roomy enough for a long weekend and soft enough to squash into a car boot.
- Dense Swirl Quilting — The cream background between the dogs is filled with a continuous hand-stitched swirl pattern that gives the barrel a soft, padded structure you notice the moment you pick it up.
- Patchwork End Panels — Both ends of the cylinder are built from small patchwork squares in crimson, gold, sage, indigo, and plum — a satisfying mosaic that looks finished from every angle.
- The Last of This Run — We took what the workshop had left. Once these are gone we will not be getting them again.
- Looking After Her — Spot clean with a soft damp cloth and let her air dry. No tumble dryer — it flattens the quilting.
You lift it off the baggage carousel in Philadelphia and the woman behind you immediately taps your shoulder — three dachshunds on a cream quilted barrel, each one wearing a different fabric coat, will do that.
⚠ Because every bag is made by hand, small differences in colour, stitching and placement will happen. That is not a fault — it is the proof a person made it.
This is a handmade artisan bag, and the price reflects the hours that go into piecing, quilting, and finishing every panel by hand — it is not the bag for someone looking for a bargain. It is for the woman who wants to carry something genuinely one-of-a-kind and is done apologizing for loving dogs a little too much.
“We almost kept this one for ourselves — Riley has two dachshunds.” — Claire & Riley, Cape May
