Most women find us the same way — something stopped them mid-scroll, and it just felt like theirs.
You're in the right place.
Seven poodles, seven colours, every curl raised and glorious
Seven standard poodles stand shoulder to shoulder across this roomy barrel-style traveler — each one a different saturated colour: cream, tangerine, teal, deep violet, red, golden yellow, and charcoal black. The quilting is densely built up so that every curl of each poodle's coat has its own raised texture, and the background panels shift between jewel-toned blocks that give the whole surface an almost stained-glass quality. The patchwork handles pick up the same rainbow palette, tying the whole thing together. Claire and Riley found this piece the same way they find everything for the shop their mother Margaret opened in Cape May in 1978 — because it stopped them cold and they simply had to have it.
- Raised Quilted Poodle Portraits — Each of the seven poodles is individually appliquéd and quilted so the curly coat texture stands out in tactile relief — you can feel the craftsmanship before you even open the zipper.
- Details — 19" × 9" × 9", roomy enough for a long weekend and soft enough to squash into a car boot.
- Rainbow Patchwork Handles — The dual top handles are pieced from the same multi-colour quilt blocks as the body, so there's no awkward contrast — the bag looks considered from every angle.
- Structured Barrel Silhouette — The firm, rounded barrel shape holds its form whether it's half-empty in an overhead bin or fully packed for a long weekend, keeping the poodle panel looking crisp throughout the trip.
- The Last of This Run — We took what the workshop had left. Once these are gone we will not be getting them again.
- Looking After Her — Spot clean with a soft damp cloth and let her air dry. No tumble dryer — it flattens the quilting.
Picture sliding this off the baggage carousel in Nashville — seven poodles in teal, violet, and gold practically glowing under the terminal lights — and watching a complete stranger tap her friend on the shoulder to point it out.
⚠ Because every bag is made by hand, small differences in colour, stitching and placement will happen. That is not a fault — it is the proof a person made it.
This is a handmade, artisan-quilted bag, and the price reflects the hours of hand work that go into every single one. If you're looking for the least expensive way to carry your things, this isn't it — but if you want a piece you'll still be reaching for in fifteen years, it is exactly that.
“We put it on the counter and three people asked about it before we'd even tagged it.” — Claire & Riley, Cape May
