One starfish held the whole ocean still for you

Look closely and you'll find an entire tidal world wrapped around this cylindrical duffle: a bold orange starfish takes center stage, its arms dotted with raised ivory beading, surrounded by quilted scallop shells in blush and aqua, branching coral in deep rose and powder blue, sea fans in soft lavender, and sand dollars stitched in warm cream. The background fabric shifts from lilac to peach to dusty rose, with fine channel quilting that gives the whole surface a gentle, dimensional texture. The handles carry the same coral-and-gold patchwork stripe as the bag's banding. Claire and Riley found this piece the way they find everything for the shop their mother Margaret opened here in Cape May in 1978 — because it stopped them cold and they couldn't leave without it.

• The Last of This Run — We took what the workshop had left. Once these are gone we will not be getting them again.
• Looking After Her — Spot clean with a soft damp cloth and let her air dry. No tumble dryer — it flattens the quilting.
